Great Stories
We all love stories. We all grow by hearing stories from grand parents.Every public speaker has his own story.Every successful person has a story.Stories are fun to read and a medium to communicate complicated subjects in simple format.
In my childhood,my grandpa used to tell stories every night. We brothers grow listening to his stories. We used to write a long list of comics and story books whenever he went to get his pension, every month.
I read "CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL" by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, couple of weeks before. It contains 101 stories which will motivate, inspire. It has stories organised under 7 categories: 1.Love 2.Learning to love yourself 3.On Parenting 4.On Learning 5.Live your Dream 6.Overcoming Obstacles 7.Eclectic Wisdom.
I love the stories in categories 2,5,6 very much. The stories gave me a great inspiration.
On the starting page of Learning to love yourself, the following little piece is there:
Oliver Wendell Homes once attended a meeting,in which he was the shortest man present.
"Dr.Holmes," quipped a friend,"I should think you'd feel rather small among us big fellows."
"I do," retorted Holmes,"I feel like a dime among a lot of pennies".
Beautiful.
On the page of Live your dream, there is a small piece:
People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.Wonderful words.
The 333 story, the story about Les Brown,Follow your dream,Risking, the story of Le Van Vu are motivating, inspiring.
On the page of Overcoming obstacles, the following lines are there:
Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.- Henry Ford. These words are eternal.
Consider this,Abraham lincoln didn't quit,Yes,you can,Run Patti,Run,the Power of Optimism are great stories of inspiration.
It is a great book which leads to a series of chicken soup books.
Buy it,read it,read it to your children.

Change is Good
Change is Good
All of us afraid of change.
Once we are used to a routine,it is very difficult to adapt to a new one.
But the fact is life throws at you many surprises you won't expect.
Only change is changeless here.
Forecast a change, adapt to the new life once it embraces you, face the challenges are the essential traits to be successful.
When i first landed in United States of America back in 2000,i was a bit uncomfortable.
I couldn't understand the accent,Cultural differences.
Slowly by watching the TV,speaking to the clerk at the gorcery counters,i learnt the accent.
By working with the locals,i undertand how friendly and compassionate these people are.
It is a land of opportunity,a great nation.
I read a book by name "OUR ICEBERG IS MELTING" in the last week.
It is another short fable like "Who moved my cheese".
Authors: John Kotter and Holger Rathgeber.
It is about a penguin colony in Antartica and how they adapt to change.
It applies to humans in all walks of life.We can identify ourselves with them.
There are five main characters in the story,Fred,Alice,Louis,Buddy, the Professor and NoNo.
There are emperor penquins and other penquins.
Fred is a curious and observant one.
He found a problem that may affect their existence itself.
The story tells in detail how the penquins overcome their obstacles in a courageous wayand they adopt to a new way of life.
It teaches the Eight step process of successful change:
1.Create a sense of urgency.
2.Pull together the guiding team.
3.Develop the change vision and strategy.
4.Communicate for understanding and buy in.
5.Empower others to act.
6.Produce short term wins.
7.Don't let up.
8.Create a new culture.
It is a beautiful little book to read and follow.

Characters of a Leader
Leadership is taking responsibility, leading from the front, accepting the results and moving forward.
Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, former president of India,is a true leader. His India Vision 2020inspires millions of people in india. Here,he describes how a leader should manage if he faces a setback:
India Knowledge@Wharton:Could you give an example, from your own experience, of how leaders should manage failure?
Kalam: Let me tell you about my experience. In 1973 I became the project director of India's satellite launch vehicle program, commonly called the SLV-3. Our goal was to put India's "Rohini" satellite into orbit by 1980. I was given funds and human resources -- but was told clearly that by 1980 we had to launch the satellite into space. Thousands of people worked together in scientific and technical teams towards that goal.
By 1979 -- I think the month was August -- we thought we were ready. As the project director, I went to the control center for the launch. At four minutes before the satellite launch, the computer began to go through the checklist of items that needed to be checked. One minute later, the computer program put the launch on hold; the display showed that some control components were not in order. My experts -- I had four or five of them with me -- told me not to worry; they had done their calculations and there was enough reserve fuel. So I bypassed the computer, switched to manual mode, and launched the rocket. In the first stage, everything worked fine. In the second stage, a problem developed. Instead of the satellite going into orbit, the whole rocket system plunged into the Bay of Bengal. It was a big failure.
That day, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, Prof. Satish Dhawan, had called a press conference. The launch was at 7:00 am, and the press conference -- where journalists from around the world were present -- was at 7:45 am at ISRO's satellite launch range in Sriharikota [in Andhra Pradesh in southern India]. Prof. Dhawan, the leader of the organization, conducted the press conference himself. He took responsibility for the failure -- he said that the team had worked very hard, but that it needed more technological support. He assured the media that in another year, the team would definitely succeed. Now, I was the project director, and it was my failure, but instead, he took responsibility for the failure as chairman of the organization.
The next year, in July 1980, we tried again to launch the satellite -- and this time we succeeded. The whole nation was jubilant. Again, there was a press conference. Prof. Dhawan called me aside and told me, "You conduct the press conference today."
I learned a very important lesson that day. When failure occurred, the leader of the organization owned that failure. When success came, he gave it to his team. The best management lesson I have learned did not come to me from reading a book; it came from that experience.
Thanks to my cousin Rekha for sharing this.
